The topic I want to share with you today is - forklift gearbox! Maybe we don't pay much attention to this component in our daily life, but it is a vital part of forklift operation. The forklift gearbox transmits the power from the engine to the drive axle through mechanical or hydraulic transmission. Its function is to change the engine's torque and speed, and at the same time keep the engine working within the most favorable working range to meet the vehicle's driving and traction characteristics under various working conditions.

Its classification: by power form: internal combustion power transmission, electric power transmission; by engine form: gasoline power transmission, diesel power transmission, liquefied gas power transmission; by structure form: mechanical transmission, hydraulic transmission, hydrostatic transmission.

  • Functions and requirements of the gearbox

In the transmission system of a vehicle driven by an internal combustion engine, the gearbox has three functions:

A.Change the transmission ratio between the internal combustion engine and the drive wheels, thereby changing the driving force and driving speed of the vehicle to meet the needs of various driving conditions;

B.Enable the vehicle to travel in reverse

C.Can cut off the power transmission from the internal combustion engine to the drive wheels, so as to facilitate the unloaded start of the internal combustion engine and to allow the internal combustion engine to idle when the vehicle stops for a short time.

How to choose an excellent gearbox

A.It should have a suitable number of gears and a reasonable transmission ratio to give the vehicle good traction and economy;

B. It should have a reasonable number of reverse gears. For forklifts and single-bucket loaders, since the opportunity to reverse is almost equal to that of forward, they should have basically the same number of forward and reverse gears;

C.Gear shifting should be easy and impact-free to reduce the driver's labor intensity and improve labor productivity;

D.High transmission efficiency, reliable operation, low noise and long life;

E. Simple structure and manufacturing, light weight, small axial size and easy maintenance.

To ensure the normal operation of the forklift gearbox, the key is regular maintenance and care. Cleaning and changing oil, checking seals, adjusting chains, etc. are all key steps to keep the forklift gearbox in good condition. Moreover, timely detection and repair of problems can avoid larger failures.

Although we regularly maintain the forklift gearbox, sometimes some faults still occur. For example, difficult shifting, abnormal noise, and uneven transmission. At this time, we need to check in time and find a solution. The fault may be caused by parts wear, lubricating oil contamination, etc. As long as it is handled in time, the forklift can quickly resume normal operation.
